Barbie Dress

Since I was into sewing, my final goal is to make clothes especially clothes for my own children. And before I'm ready to buy a sewing machine, I thought it would be best if I learn sewing by hand first before moving to the next step. A few weeks ago when I was blog-walking, I found this Barbie dress tutorial. And I thought to myself, "oh my God, that is what I need. I should try to make those. Those look easy". And then I immediately grab my needle, thread and felt and start making one. After making one felt dress, I got obsessed and wanted to make another one. And for the second time. I try to combine felt and cotton fabric. And here's what they look like.

The purple dress is the first doll dress that I made.
Seeing me making these doll dresses, my eldest daughter also wanted to make one. She used my purple dress pattern and made a little change with it. And instead just made one, she made two. Here's what she made.

These are made by my eldest daughter.
And I don't just stop right there. When I found this reversible dress tutorial , (though this tutorial is not for doll clothes) once again I talked to myself, I should make that too. I should learn how to do that. So, I tried that tutorial in doll size. To be frankly, I got confused on how to flip the dress right side out. But, in the end, I managed to do that and it turned out not so bad except, probably, my bad hand sewing. And here is that reversible dress.

Reversible dress.
There is also a tutorial video on how to make doll dress. It's easy to follow. I'm sure you all will be able to make one.

And here is my beloved client ...

My youngest daughter and her doll. Happy client!

I think I'm still going to make more doll clothes. I got addicted to it.

By the way, do you notice that the doll is missing a leg? :)

Happy sewing!

  1. They are just gorgeous.
I was looking to see whether felt was a good material for Barbie clothes. Then I saw your beautiful work. Your ideas are simple but very chic.

  2. Thanks Joan. To me, felt is indeed easier to sew. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  3. I just love this post of yours! I found you through Pinterest and I was thinking to try to make Barbie clothes with felt but wasn't too sure how it would turn out. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us wanderers about the felt and I definitely appreciate the links to the tutorials you tried! I was planning to gift a few girls with Barbies but wanted to have modest clothing for them so this helps a lot!
